How Mini & Mighty Became the Trusted Coffee Supplier for Crow Wood Hotel & Spa
Crow Wood Hotel & Spa Resort has become one of the best hotels in Lancashire since it opened its doors in October 2019.
This luxury hotel rests in 40 acres of private parkland in Burnley, Lancashire, within the Crow Wood resort. With spectacular views of Pendle Hill and the surrounding countryside, a beautiful ornamental lake, and fabulous gardens, it is a wonderful place to spend your time.
With 86 luxurious bedrooms and suites, stunning wedding and conference facilities, an award-winning restaurant plus the multi-award-winning Woodland Spa, it has become the hotel, spa & wedding venue of choice for style-conscious couples.
As a business Mini & Mighty have been working with Crow Wood for a number of years now. So we thought it would be great to hear from one of the directors there, about why they chose to work with us, and a little bit about their experience.
Oliver Foucré is the food and beverage director for Crow Wood Leisure.
“Hello everyone. My name is Oliver. I’m the food and beverage manager for Crow Wood Leisure. Crow wood Leisure has three restaurants on site, a hotel with 86 bedrooms, a banqueting room, and we do around 5000 coffees a week.”
How did you first meet Mark?
“Now, how did I meet Mark? Very simple. He knocked on the door, came in, tried to sell us his coffee. We do over 500 coffees a day, minimum. So we had some big contracts already in place, but he was very approachable.”
What were the biggest issues you faced and how did Mark try and solve those issues?
“One of the issues we had was maintenance, and very often, dealing with big companies, they promised you the world, and when you need them you’ve got to book a call out, it takes forever they come up, cost you a fortune, and very often they don’t really care.
“Funnily enough, a couple of times, we gave Mark a quick call to say, “Listen, we don’t have the business for you, but can you help us with our machine?” And he turned up, fixed it for us and helped us a lot.”
What made you decide to switch to Mini & Mighty for coffee?
“Through that help we thought we would give him a chance to do the order for one of the restaurant’s called the Lounge. We tested his coffee, and we were fine with it. No problem there. Now, I’m not a coffee “crazy guy”. I just like my coffee black, but I know it’s a big thing nowadays for the latte, flat white, cappuccino, etc. We put it on trial in The Lounge, and we had no negative feedback coming back to us. It was shifting nicely.
“Good presentation, good packaging. Deliveries on time. Very straightforward. Give him a phone call. He delivered.
“So because of that, and the fact that when we had machine issues, he would turn up, would return the phone call if he missed us, quite straightforward, excuse my French, no bullsh*t, we ended up giving him the whole site. A bit worried at first, because there’s quite a lot of restaurants, and I was concerned that he wouldn’t be able to deliver. To a point that we challenged him by asking him to deliver the coffee by the pallet. He even managed to do that.”
What has made you stick with Mini & Mighty for the past few years and going forward?
“His price was competitive. The quality was across the board. Could not fault it. I do not ever get a customer coming to me and saying that the coffee is not good, so I can’t complain. And he slowly took over from those big companies that were dealing with us. And yeah, Mark is straightforward. That’s the way we like it. Just a phone call. We’re not happy with a machine. It’s not working to his standard. He’ll come. Have a look at it. If he can’t help, he’ll put the right people in touch. He keeps us in the loop all the time.
“He, unfortunately, went through some personal health issues and even through that time he was always delivering, so I can honestly say that the guy’s all right. And I think he understands caterers. So definitely worth giving him a try.”
